“I always tell my students that Blue Ocean Strategy does not only make our idea highly innovative but also helps in addressin problems of the world.”

In the vibrant educational landscape of the Philippines, Beatrize Eana T. Lamigo of Trinity University of Asia High School stands out. She is a passionate and dedicated teacher who is changing the way her students think about business—and the world. She exemplifies how educators can transform standard curricula into dynamic learning experiences by incorporating programs like the Blue Ocean Competition to prepare students to address global challenges.

Grounded in one of her school’s core values—innovation—she’s determined to go beyond textbooks and introduce students to powerful frameworks like Blue Ocean Strategy, which she believes, are key to helping youth become involved in creating solutions to problems of the world. “The youth are brave and creative they just need to know the different disciplines that can help them”, she says. The earlier they learn how to apply these strategies, the more equipped they are to make a meaningful impact on the world.

Her approach is hands-on and deeply immersive. In her Technology and Livelihood Education and Entrepreneurship classes, students explore the difference between red ocean and blue ocean strategies through real-life examples. “For Grade 12 students, they develop a product that helps the 3Ps—People, Planet, and Profit—and is a Blue Ocean product,” she explains. “They don’t just pitch—they sell their products both at school and at our industry partner, Robinsons Mall, applying everything they’ve learned.”

This applied learning model has transformed how her students think—not just about business, but about their potential impact on the world. “They were able to know how to promote their products in an untapped market, set the right prices, and apply the strategy even in other subjects like science and math,” she notes.

She motivates her students by focusing on the journey over perfection. “They often get anxious or frightened to present,” she says. “But I tell them—this is your chance. The people you meet in this competition, you may not know them, but you will learn from them.” For students struggling with pitches, she offers a three-step approach: “one is validating their feelings, listening to what they feel in that moment and sharing that I too experience feeling frightened and scared to continue. Second is giving them breathing techniques to calm their nerves and lastly, to reiterate to them to focus on the process and not the perfection of their pitches. I told them that, being able to come up with such idea, visual aids and being present is already progress.”

Beyond the classroom, she encourages students to bring blue ocean learning into school clubs. In the Accountancy, Business, and Management Club, her students applied blue ocean thinking in creative ways—like selling DIY cupcakes with inspirational Bible verses. The results speak for themselves. Her students have twice won the Tao Ke Business Summit competition.

Looking ahead, she’s determined to expand her reach and support for young entrepreneurs. “I want students to use Blue Ocean Strategy to become leaders in the business world and ensure that all students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, feel empowered to pursue entrepreneurship.”

She also hopes to contribute to the global blue ocean teachers community. “I can share how Filipinos apply Blue Ocean Strategy, offer mentoring from a Southeast Asian perspective, and support global student collaboration through online discussions.”
