Who We Are
The Blue Ocean Entrepreneurship Competition is the largest entrepreneurship competition in the United States run by and for high school students. Every year, teams of students pitch their innovative business concepts to experienced entrepreneurs and businesspeople, receive feedback on their ideas, and compete for cash prizes! This year, we are hosting our inaugural national competition, featuring pitch expos in the Mid-Atlantic and Silicon Valley, as well as a virtual platform enabling participation from across the country. The Blue Ocean Entrepreneurship Competition is a program managed by Blue Ocean Student Entrepreneurs Corp, a newly-established 501c3 Nonprofit Organization.
The Blue Ocean Entrepreneurship Competition exists because we believe that high school students have innovative ideas. We:
Expose students across the United States to the exciting world of business
Engage students to conceive, research, develop, and present a novel business concept leveraging the tools and frameworks of Blue Ocean Strategy
Inspire & Empower high school students to find innovative solutions to problems in business and in life
It's For Everyone
It doesn't matter if you are interested in sports, STEM, or the arts because the Blue Ocean Competition allows everyone to pitch their revolutionary idea. The competition is the best place to see innovation from a variety of disciplines. In fact, interdisciplinary connections between business and other fields are exactly what make blue ocean ideas successful. Sign Up →
At the Blue Ocean Entrepreneurship Competition, teams of 1-3 students have the chance to present an original business concept to a panel of judges. They will develop a deeper understanding of business and entrepreneurship, as well as improve their public speaking and communication skills through their presentation, judge feedback, and workshops. It's free to participate, and we offer thousands in cash prizes!
Our workshops, held on competition day, include highly acclaimed speakers with decades of experience in the business world. In the past, we have had authors, professors, entrepreneurs, and CEOs speak and lead workshops at our event. These workshops supplement the teams' presentations and offer the opportunity for participants to learn more about specific aspects of business.
Don't Just Take Our Word For It
Here's what some past competitors have to say about the Blue Ocean Competition:
"The Blue Ocean Competition was a pivotal experience for me. The support of the Blue Ocean team, the quality and utility of the workshops on competition day, and the general vibe of enthusiasm and initiative showed me that my work can be relevant today - not just after I get a college degree and a job."
- Sandra Sandeep, North County HS ‘16
“The Blue Ocean Competition was one of the most intellectually challenging and rewarding experiences I had throughout the school year. By participating, you throw yourself straight into the world of entrepreneurship and innovation, learning lessons that are not taught in any classroom.”
- Ryan Bellissimo, St. Andrews School '16
"With top-notch competition from across the nation, students must push their creativity and business skills, which is something that everyone should be exposed to. Classes won't teach you the knowledge or mindset that you'll gain through participating in the Blue Ocean Competition.”
- Timothy Chen, River Hill HS '15
“The Blue Ocean Competition has been an amazing opportunity to fuel my desire to create my own business with one of my best friends. The competition has gained us attention and opened doors we never could have imagined.”
- Jeremy Quinn, North County HS '17
"The collaboration, thorough research, and creative thinking required to do well in this competition all fostered highly sought-after skills in the business world. I highly recommend the Blue Ocean experience to anyone interested in business, not just to those who want to become entrepreneurs."
- Carmen Lau, North County HS '16
"I would recommend all business-minded high school students to compete in the Blue Ocean Competition as you get to develop your own business plan and receive feedback from successful professionals. It is always a good idea to get a head start, and competing in the Blue Ocean Competition is an amazing opportunity to do that."
- Min An, Centennial HS '16
